Last Front for the Chautauquan Daily

This internship was amazing. I was presented an incredible opportunity to work for a daily newspaper, working with three other designers rotating design duties for different parts of the newspaper. This was my last front page.

It ran today and features an illustration of a lettermen jacket. The lettermen jacket represents the story which is about the band The Lettermen.

So…After today I go back to OU. I will have a lot of time on my hands to go back to miscellaneous illustrations and posters.

Stay tuned, and so long Chautauqua.

Still working

So this is close to being finished. I screwed up and had to redo it and I like how the final print came out. I sanded it to give it more of a rough and vintage feel. I may have sanded it a little too much but I’m happy with it for it ring my first shot. I’ll updated when it’s all framed!

Work in Progress

Work in progress. I’m trying to make a wood print. I’ll let you guys know how it turns out!

Front Pages: Chautauquan Daily

Sorry I haven’t been updating guys. I will probably be getting a lot more pages up quicker than I have been.

Also, I will probably be doing quit a bit of designing on my own within the next month or so. Stay tuned for that.

These are a couple of the front pages I have worked on for the Daily.

More to come soon.

The Chautauquan Daily: Weekend Edition 7/7-8

Sorry guys!

I’m sorry that I haven’t been updating as often as I said last post (starting to pick up on a trend). I have been working hard at the Daily and turning around multiple pages every day.

Here are the front pages for the past week or so that I have designed. There have been some super, super work, both written and designed.

The Chautauquan Daily: Weekend Edition 6/23-24/12

So, it has been a week or so since my last update.

I am currently in New York at the Chautauqua Institution (about 1 1/2 hours south of Buffalo, NY), interning as a page designer for their daily.

Our first paper for the Chautauqua season came out this past Saturday and I was responsible for front and several other pages.

Rather than posting every page I have done (and this goes for the rest of the summer), I will only post my favorites (you are welcome!). This means that I will most likely be posting one to two pages a day with brief description of the pages.

These were from the weekend and I will most likely be double posting either today or tomorrow.

ImageHi, Guys! It has been so long since I have updated this (roughly two wholes weeks!).

I am currently in the beautiful Chautauqua, NY interning for the Chautauqua newspaper (The Chautauquan Daily).

I realized this today, I never uploaded my final project for my picture editing class. For the assignment we had to lay out a page for New York Times Magazine using provided photos and copy.

The assignment was challenging only because it is hard to emulate the New York Times Magazine style, especially on such a serious topic.

The Girl in the Window

Front Page: The Post 6/1/12

ImageThis page was difficult for many reasons, but most of all because of the large amount of space given for the center piece. As a result, I gave CP a lot of white space on the sides and was able to include a large graphic (maybe larger than it should have been) and a large headline.

Front Page: The Post 5/5/12

Sorry for the delay.

This is the front I did on Friday.

The topic was different for me, I am used to athletic center pieces or deaths, but this one was about Moonshining in New Straightsville.

I think it turned out well. The infographic was illustrated by me and was based of a graphic I saw on the website HowStuffWorks.

Staying Fit (Post Modern)

Post Modern last night was about how to keep fit in college. The page ended up clean and organized. While I don’t think the design symbolized the topic very well, I do like the layout a lot.

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s front page.
