Slim, Slow, Slider

This isn’t really anything special. Just thought I would post something for the heck of it.

So. It’s been awhile. I’m sorry! I missed my days as a minimalist. This is my attempt at mixing the new with the old.

Van is my favorite. I was so worried about doing a poster for him because I wanted it to be just right. It’s the same reason I haven’t designed a poster for most of my favorite movie; I’m scared I won’t do it justice. I think this turned out well and I recommend looking up the song, you won’t be sorry!

I’m going to try and design more in my free time (all ten minutes a week), so stay tuned!

Front Pages: Chautauquan Daily

Sorry I haven’t been updating guys. I will probably be getting a lot more pages up quicker than I have been.

Also, I will probably be doing quit a bit of designing on my own within the next month or so. Stay tuned for that.

These are a couple of the front pages I have worked on for the Daily.

More to come soon.

The Chautauquan Daily: Weekend Edition 7/7-8

Sorry guys!

I’m sorry that I haven’t been updating as often as I said last post (starting to pick up on a trend). I have been working hard at the Daily and turning around multiple pages every day.

Here are the front pages for the past week or so that I have designed. There have been some super, super work, both written and designed.

The Chautauquan Daily: Weekend Edition 6/23-24/12

So, it has been a week or so since my last update.

I am currently in New York at the Chautauqua Institution (about 1 1/2 hours south of Buffalo, NY), interning as a page designer for their daily.

Our first paper for the Chautauqua season came out this past Saturday and I was responsible for front and several other pages.

Rather than posting every page I have done (and this goes for the rest of the summer), I will only post my favorites (you are welcome!). This means that I will most likely be posting one to two pages a day with brief description of the pages.

These were from the weekend and I will most likely be double posting either today or tomorrow.

Front Page: The Post 5/18/12

ImageCompletely forgot to update this on Friday! Sorry guys! Here is Friday’s front for the Post. This was challenging because it’s a huge news story for the University (which is kind of rare) and I didn’t want it to be just another election result page so I made a large drop cap, out a blue banner over the photo (which some people liked, others didn’t), and two small graphics along with the addition of a second story covering Grad Student Senate.

Stay tuned for new work, been incredibly busy lately but should have three or four decent pages before the quarter’s end.

Dead Poets Society

This is one of my most favorite movies of all times. It is the quintessential emotional roller coaster for film. I am trying out a new style for my illustrations and this was my first shot at it.

I used a paper texture and a green background to give it more of the school feel.

I hope you guys enjoy, also, I understand the quote is not from that part of the movie, but it is one of the most famous quotes from the film so I matched it with one of the most famous scenes in the film.

Hebrews 13:2

This is a poster I did for a friend.

The translation she gave me was a little different than the ones I found online, but it was similar enough.

I think I have strayed away from minimalism lately. This is sort of me getting back to it. I like the simplicity of the black and yellow.

Blaise Pascal

For this design, I tested a theory out. I have noticed the trend in textures and minimalistic type lately. This is my proof (to myself) that a simple illustration + a texture + simple type = a recipe for a slick looking design. Let me know how you feel about this recipe for creative success.
